The requirements for filing a state extension vary by state. The process for your specific state will be explained in the filing steps.

To file a state extension:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Filing to expand, then click File Extension. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Filing.
  2. Continue as appropriate for your situation. You must have a state attached to your return for the state options to appear.
  3. The program will proceed with the interview questions for you to enter or review your extension information.

In some cases, no extension form is needed. The program will indicate what is required for your state. If you need to print a payment voucher or extension form, you will be prompted to do so in the filing steps.

  • Louisiana
