TaxAct^® can import data from PDF files of 2019 1040 returns prepared using other tax prep software.

In order to do so, export your return into a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, which is readable using the Adobe Reader program. TaxAct will import information appearing on your 2019 1040 form, saving time and minimizing errors.

To complete the PDF import:

1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Basic Info to expand, then click Data Import. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Basic Info.
2. On the screen titled Select a 2019 tax return to transfer, click the import your 2019 PDF return link in the shaded box on the bottom.
3. Drag and drop the PDF or click Browse to locate the file on your computer, then click OK.
4. To exit the PDF import screen without importing, click Skip, I'll do it manually.
