TaxAct® can import data from PDF files of 2018 1040 returns prepared using other tax prep software.

In order to do so, export your return into a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, which is readable using the Adobe Reader program. TaxAct will import information appearing on your 2018 1040 form, saving time and minimizing errors.

Importing into TaxAct Online from PDF

In order to complete the PDF import:

1. Click Basic Info. Click the File menu item. 
2. Click Data Import.
3. In the shaded box at the bottom of the page, click the "import your 2018 PDF return" link. 
4. Drag and drop the PDF or click Browse to locate the file on your computer.
5. To exit the PDF import screen without importing, click Skip Import.
