TaxAct is committed to protecting your tax information. We partner with the IRS, state tax administrators, and other software providers to prevent tax and identity fraud. As part of this effort, we implement advanced security measures, including:

  • Strong password requirements
  • Email address verification
  • Account lockouts after multiple failed sign-in attempts
  • Trusted device and IP address recognition
  • Monitoring for multiple accounts using the same SSN

We continually update our security protocols to keep your information safe.

The TaxAct Service & Support team:

  • does not have access to your password,
  • will never ask you to share your password,
  • does not have the ability to reset your password for you.

Update Information (Consumer)

To update your information, sign in to your TaxAct account online and go to Menu > Settings. Use the online steps even if you use the desktop version of TaxAct.

Update Information (Professional)

To update your information, sign in to your TaxAct account online. Use the online steps even though you use the desktop version of TaxAct.

  • Click My Preferences to update your Email Address, Phone number, or Password.
  • Click My Info to update your Address.

IMPORTANT: Usernames cannot be changed. To use a different username, create a new account.

NOTE: Past online returns and desktop software purchases cannot be transferred or accessed from a new account

Password Requirements

  • 8–100 characters
  • One uppercase letter
  • One lowercase letter
  • One number
  • One symbol (@, #)
  • Cannot begin or end with a space
