Manage or Update Account Information (Name, Address, Username, or Password)

TaxAct is committed to protecting your tax information. We partner with the IRS, state tax administrators, and other software providers to prevent tax and identity fraud. As part of this effort, we implement advanced security measures, including:
  • Strong password requirements
  • Email address verification
  • Account lockouts after multiple failed sign-in attempts
  • Trusted device and IP address recognition
  • Monitoring for multiple accounts using the same SSN
We continually update our security protocols to keep your information safe.

  • does not have access to your password,
  • will never ask you to share your password,
  •  does not have the ability to reset your password for you.

Update Contact Info

  1. Sign in to your TaxAct account online (even if using the desktop version of TaxAct).
  2. Go to Menu > My Preferences (gear icon).
  3. Select and update your email address or phone number.

Update Name or Address

  1. Sign in to your TaxAct account online (even if using the desktop version of TaxAct).
  2. Go to Menu > My Info.
  3. Select Manage beside your Name or Address.

Change Username

Usernames cannot be changed. To use a different one, create a new account.

Note: Past online returns and desktop software purchases are not able to be transferred or accessed from a new account

Change Password

  1. Sign in to your TaxAct account online (even if using the desktop version of TaxAct).
  2. Go to Menu > My Preferences (gear icon).
  3. Beside Password, click manage.
  4. Enter the following: 
    • Current Password,
    • New Password
    • Confirm New Password.
  5. Click Update Password.

Password Requirements

  • 8–100 characters
  • One uppercase letter
  • One lowercase letter
  • One number
  • One symbol (e.g., @, #)
  • Cannot begin or end with a space
