Alimony

NOTE: Amounts paid as alimony or separate maintenance payments under a divorce or separation agreement executed after 2018 are not deductible by the payer and are not included in the income of the recipient.

Alimony Received
To enter alimony received in the TaxAct program, follow the steps below.

Online
Dashboard
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Income. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection. 
  2. Click the Explore More drop-list to expand.
  3. Click Add beside Alimony Received
  4. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Classic
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection. 
  2. Click the Other Income drop-down, then click Alimony Received.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Desktop
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
  2. Click the Other Income drop-down, then click Alimony Received.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Alimony Paid
To enter alimony paid in the TaxAct program, follow the steps below.

Online
Dashboard
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Deductions & Credits. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection. 
  2. Select Other Deductions & Credits.
  3. Click Add beside Alimony Paid
  4. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Classic
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection. 
  2. Click the Other Adjustments drop-down, then click Alimony paid.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Desktop
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
  2. Click the Other Adjustments drop-down, then click Alimony paid.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process.
