Purchase Options – Buy Now or Reserve and Pay Later 
What is the Reserve and Pay Later option in Checkout? 
You have two payment options when purchasing your software program: 
  • Buy Now – Pay the “Buy Now” price upfront.  
  • Reserve and Pay Later – Reserve your software today, with no initial payment. Your credit card information is collected at checkout, but you will not be charged the “Reserve and Pay Later” price until mid-October, shortly before the release of our preview version. You will receive an email notification one week prior to the charge.

Returns vs. Units 
I want to purchase the TaxAct Pro Pay-Per-Return or Low Volume Bundle software; how do I buy returns?  
For tax year 2025, we have improved our Pay-Per-Return system by offering return-based purchasing. Rather than using a unit system, you will purchase returns—individual or business—for use with Pay-Per-Return software or Low Volume Bundle software. 

Going forward, returns will be year-specific. Returns can be used through the end of the calendar year following the filing year. For example, any returns in the 2025 return bank can be used until December 31, 2027. You can purchase a return when you file it, or contact the Sales team at (319) 536-3571 for bulk-purchasing options. 

Notes:
  • The 1040 Twenty product includes 20 individual returns. If you need additional returns, you can purchase individual returns for the stated price. 
  • The Business 40 product comes with 40 returns, allowing you to file 40 returns of any type. If you need additional returns, you can purchase individual or business returns for the stated prices. 
  • If you need to purchase or file a 2024 or prior return, you will continue to use the unit system. Unused tax year 2024 units will expire on December 31, 2026. 

Online Renewal 
Can I renew TaxAct Pro online?
If you plan to renew the same software you used last year, you can do this from your online account by following these steps:  
  1. Sign in to your account on the TaxAct Pro website. 
  2. Choose Renew My Software.  
  3. On the Orders and Downloads page, select each product you want to renew by checking the box to the left of the product. 
  4. Proceed to the checkout. 
If you want to purchase a different product this year, call the Sales team at (319) 536-3571. You can still choose to either Buy Now or Pay Later when renewing with the Sales team.
