Forgot Online Username or Password

If you need to reset your password follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Sign In page.
  2. Click Forgot Username or Password?.
  3. Enter your username, email address, or mobile phone number in the search box.
    • Username: a verification code will be sent to your mobile device.
      • Once you verify that code, another verification code will be sent to your email.
      • Once you verify that code via email, you will be prompted to change your password.
      • After you change your password, you’ll receive an email confirming that your account password has successfully been updated.
    • Phone number: include your 3-digit area code. Code will be sent as a text message (Standard rates apply).
      • A verification code will be sent to your mobile device.
      • You will be directed to a page that lists all of your accounts.
      • Choose the account you want to use.
      • A verification code will be sent to the email associated with that account.
      • Once you verify the code via email, you will be prompted to change your password.
      • After you change your password, you’ll receive an email confirming that your account password has successfully been updated.
    • Email: It can take a minute or so for the email to arrive, but be sure to check all junk, spam, or other folders, just in case.
      • You will receive an email that lists all of your accounts. 
      • Choose the account you wish to use.
      • A verification code will be sent to your mobile device.
      • Once you verify the code, you will be prompted to change your password. 
      • After you change your password, you’ll receive an email confirming that your account password has successfully been updated.

Note. If your prior-year return is no longer available on TaxAct Online, contact the IRS for a transcript or copy of your return.
