Recovery Rebate Credit Adjustment Notice received 2021
1

If you received a notice from the IRS advising you that they adjusted the Recovery Rebate Credit in your return:

We found that the most common reason that the IRS is adjusting taxpayer returns is due to a discrepancy between the amount the IRS has on record as being sent to the taxpayers and the amount that was reported by the taxpayers for the 3rd stimulus payment received/not received.

What To Do

Take a moment to review your responses in your TaxAct return to confirm your entries made for receiving the 3rd stimulus payment, also referred to as the 3rd EIP payment.

To review your Recovery Rebate information in TaxAct:

    1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
    2. Click Credits in the expanded menu.
    3. Scroll through the list of credit topics until you reach "Recovery rebate credit".
    4. Click Review.
    5. The program will lead you through the necessary steps to complete this section.

THEN review the information the IRS has on record as being sent to you:

    1. Click this link to visit the IRS website 3rd Stimulus Payment Information.
    2. Follow the instructions the IRS has provided to either sign in to your existing account or create an account. This is found in the section titled Amount and Status of Your Third Payment.
    3. Sign in to your existing account or create a new account by following the instructions provided by the IRS.

IF you find the information in your return to be correct and you still have not received the 3rd stimulus payment/full amount of the payment, you should respond to the notice as instructed to find out why the IRS is not allowing you this credit. You may want to have a copy of the recovery rebate credit worksheet with you, and you may need to provide this to the IRS.

To print the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet:

The print process will generate a Portable Document Format (PDF) file which can be viewed, printed, or saved. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.
