IRS Form 8832 Entity Classification Election is completed to reflect how the entity has elected to be treated for federal tax purposes. If you are not certain of your business entity classification, you may need to call the IRS Business & Specialty Tax Line at 1-800-829-4933 to verify how you should file your business tax return for the current tax year. If you are a tax professional, you would call 1-866-255-0654.

Form 8832 is available in the TaxAct business programs (examples: partnership, corporate); however, it is not yet available in the individual (1040) program. To file the form with your individual return you would need to manually complete Form 8832 and mail your paper return (be sure to read the filing instructions at the bottom of the Form 8832 pdf).

To access Form 8832 in TaxAct:

  1. From within your TaxAct Online return, click the Tools dropdown, then click Forms Assistant.
  2. Click + next to the Forms and Schedules manila folder.
  3. Scroll down and click Form 8832 - Entity Classification Election, then click + Add to create a new copy of the form, or click Form to review a form already created.
  4. Fill out the form with your information, and click Save & Close (for more information, click Form Instructions in the top left corner).
  1. From within your TaxAct Desktop return, click Forms in the options bar to view Forms Explorer (if it is not already visible).
  2. Click Federal from the dropdown in Forms Explorer, then click the Forms and Schedules dropdown.
  3. Click Form 8832 to open it in Forms View, and enter your information.
  4. Click the View form instructions icon at the top of Forms View for more information.
