- Form 1040 - A calculation issue was corrected on Form 8582, Part II, line 7 - the modified adjusted gross income was previously not including other income amount from Form 1040, Schedule 1, line 21.

This update includes the following enhancements:
- Users will now see a pop-up alert when there are new posts in the Notification Center. The alert will not disrupt what you are currently working on. If no action is taken the alert will disappear after 10 seconds; you can also close the alert by clicking X in the upper right-hand corner of the pop-up. Pop-up alerts can be disabled by selecting Preparer --> Preferences --> Miscellaneous tab --> Uncheck "Show notification alert pop-up" box --> Click "Save and Exit".
- Married separate calculation report has been updated.
- Minor fixes and enhancements.

With Version 1.01, you will be required to have the latest update installed for all federal and state returns prior to e-filing. For more information on this change, view the Notifications tab in your TaxAct Professional 2018 Edition for the notification titled New Requirement: Must Have Latest Version to e-file Returns.

- Notification Center Banner:
- When there are new notifications detected, a red banner will appear across the top of your screen to indicate new unread notifications.
- Click the banner to go to the Notifications tab to view. There is an option to hide the banner until the next time notifications are detected.

The software can check for updates when you sign in if the "If already connected to the internet, automatically check for updates on program startup" checkbox is selected in the Tools --> Options menu. In addition, you can check for updates at any time by clicking the Online --> Check for Updates menu

We have a couple of minor software enhancements for this update, but no tax form/calculation updates are included (look for those in a future update).
- Fix updates message window to show version number.
- Previously, the version number was missing when showing updates were available. Update Version number is now visible.
- Software sign in update.
- Minor back-end enhancements for smoother sign in to the Professional software.
11/06/2018 – Version .91 of TaxAct 2018 Professional Federal Editions
We have a few minor software messaging enhancements for this update, however no tax form/calculation updates are included (look for those in a future update).
- Update message when printing a form that’s not available
- Reasons for not being able to print a form include:
- The IRS or State has not yet made the form available
- We have not yet received approval from the IRS or State
- The form is not included for filing of the return
- Updated the text for online backup and restore wizard (Local Enterprise Users)
- We updated the text to reflect we now store this data for 7 years beyond the filing deadline.
10/30/2018 – Version .90 of TaxAct 2018 Professional Federal Editions
The initial release of the 2018 Federal Editions includes the following enhancements:
- Enhanced Side-by-Side Form View
- Along with viewing prior year returns, now you can also view current-year 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041 or 990 returns by selecting the "Side by side view" icon when in viewing a return
- Select which year return you wish to compare by selecting the appropriate year button
- If selecting to compare returns of different federal return types, you will have another folder tree to select which form to compare
- Client Information Worksheets
- At the top of the Forms list, new worksheets help you enter general client information quickly and easily. Input your client’s personal, dependent, health insurance, bank account, e-filing information, statements, and the preparer/ERO information in one place
- The Basic Information Worksheet opens when opening a return in forms view
- Can select to filter by just Information Worksheets in the drop down
- State e-file Authorization
- Easily print the state e-file authorization form along with the client return from the Print Center

- Even if you store your client data files locally, your practice and preparer master information will be stored on TaxAct’s secure servers. You no longer need to worry about losing data due to corrupt files or running backups on the following:
- Practice information
- Preparer information*
- Preparer invitations/logins/permissions
- Master Forms data
- Return/Pay status
- Master preferences
- Client manager preferences
- Preparer miscellaneous preferences
- Activity and electronic filing logs
- Changes now occur in just one place while easily connecting your TaxAct account with your TaxAct Professional software. The Practice Administrator has more control over information that previously couldn’t be changed, such as EFIN verification and preparer permissions. You will also see increased efficiency with practice invitations, security, and name/PTIN/EFIN matching for e-filing returns.
- Offline mode is still available for local storage Practices; however, a connection will be required to view or update the information stored online.
- Simultaneous Program Sign-In Not Allowed
- Security guidelines require every user of TaxAct Professional Editions to have a unique sign–in account
- If a username and password with an active session is used to sign into a second device, the first session will end and the user becomes active on the second device only
- To invite additional users to join your practice and create their own account, follow the invitation process
- Software Updates Required to Print or e-File
- Due to compliance reasons, users will now be required to have the latest version of the software at the time of printing or e-filing an affected federal or state return
