No matter when you file, any federal taxes due must be paid by the filing deadline for your return. The IRS accepts payment in multiple ways, even when you have already filed your return.

You may still pay your taxes using the free Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) via the internet or phone, by credit card, or mail in a paper check. You can find information on the following available options:

Note. If you are paying your taxes owed late, submit the amount your return shows as due. The IRS may assess penalties and interest, and will bill you via mail after your return and payment have been processed.

Note. If you pay your taxes prior to filing, choose the option to mail a check during the filing steps.
