The TaxAct Professional Editions install so they integrate into the same program file (EXE). This means that if you have installed multiple federal editions (1040, 1065, 1120, etc.), all editions will run from the same desktop icon or program file. TaxAct integrates editions so you can manage all return types from the Client Manager.

After installing the federal edition for a return type, to create a new return:

  1. Click File.
  2. Click Add Client Return.
  3. You may receive a prompt to review master forms. This will also show you which editions are installed. Click Close in the lower left if you do not wish to review the master forms at this point.
  4. In the Add Client box, use the Add New 2020 Client drop-down to select which return type you wish to open.
  5. Click OK.

This will create a new return of the selected type (1040, 1065, 1120, etc.) in the program.
