Professional Editions - Setting Permissions for Preparers Invited to Your Practice
1

Permissions are a feature of multi-user networking available in TaxAct Enterprise Editions.

If you selected to store files "On TaxAct's secure servers (cloud-based)" during the installation process, you have the opportunity to assign permissions to each preparer. This can be done during the initial set up for each Preparer, or can be modified any time through the Preparer, Master Information, Preparers menu option and selecting "Edit" next to the Preparer name.

Permissions can be set for any of the following:

  • Create new returns
  • Open existing returns
  • Delete existing returns
  • Import client information
  • Export client information
  • Print client information
  • E-file/online backup
  • Edit Master Information*
  • Download/install updates

* Note: Master Information includes:

  • Editing Practice Information
  • Inviting Preparers to join the Practice (cloud storage users only)
  • Editing Preparer Information
  • Deactivating/Reactivating Preparers
  • Modifying Client Status, Directories, Filing, Misc., and Calculation settings

If you selected to store files "locally" during the installation process, you can use User-Level Password Protection to limit a user’s given rights. The rights available are the same as listed above for cloud-storage users.

To enable this feature and set user rights:

  1. Click Preparer > Master Information > Security.
  2. Select User-Level Password Protection to require a password for each user.
  3. Click Add New User.
  4. Enter a Username and Password.
  5. Set user rights, then click OK.
  6. Repeat steps for each user.
