What is a Practice ID and Where to Find (or Enter) Yours
1

TaxAct assigns each practice a unique alphanumeric identification code called a "Practice ID" when the software is purchased. If you have multiple preparers in your practice, each preparer will have the same Practice ID. This ID links your software with your TaxAct account and allows all preparers in your practice to share resources.

The Practice ID (as well as your EFIN and PTIN (or SSN)) must be entered in Master Info in order to e-file. You may also be asked to sign in to your TaxAct Account the first time you e-file to ensure that your software is synced with your TaxAct Account.

The Practice Owner can find the Practice ID in TaxAct:

  1. From within your TaxAct Professional Edition program, click Preparer in the upper menu bar, hover your mouse over Master Information, then click Practice.
  2. In the field below Practice ID, your number is displayed as greyed-out text that can't be edited.
  3. Click X in the top of the window to close it.

If you are not the Practice Owner, you need to enter the Practice ID provided by the Practice Owner:

  1. From within your TaxAct Professional Edition program, click Preparer in the upper menu bar, hover your mouse over Master Information, then click Practice.
  2. In the field below Practice ID, type in the number provided by your Practice Owner.
  3. Click X in the top of the window to close it.
