Form 1040-X - Amendment with No Changes to Dollar Amounts
1

If you need to make changes to your return after it has been filed, you may need to file an amended return. However, not all changes affect the dollar amounts on the return.

Per the IRS Instructions for Form 1040X, page 6:

You are providing only additional information. If you are not changing any dollar amounts you originally reported, but are sending in only additional information, do the following.

  • Check the box for the calendar year or enter the other calendar or fiscal year you are amending.
  • Complete name, address, and SSN.
  • Check a box in Part II, if applicable, for the Presidential Election Campaign Fund.
  • Complete Part III, Explanation of changes.

You can complete the Form 1040X in the TaxAct program (CLICK HERE for instructions). Note. The entire first page of the form will be filled out including Columns A, B, and C.

If you would instead like to print a blank Form 1040X and complete only the sections mentioned above, CLICK HERE to access the form on the IRS website, which must then be completed manually. TaxAct's Development Team will review adding an option to complete an information-only Form 1040X in the future.
