Professional Editions - Rebuilding Client Manager Information
1

When you rebuild your Client Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + P), you are prompted to transfer your Preparer Master Form Data into the client returns. If you select this option and the data does not populate after the rebuild, check your master form information:

  1. Click Preparer in the top menu, click Master Information, then click Master Form Data.
  2. Select the correct type of return.
  3. Review the information in that file.

If not correct, then your master information file is not correct. If you've backed up your master data file, then you can use the restore feature to restore that file. If it hasn't been backed up, you will need to re-enter the master data and copy the updated information to your clients:

  1. Click Preparer in the top menu, click Master Information, then click Master Form Data.
  2. Choose the correct type of return.
  3. Review the information in that file.

To re-apply master form data to clients:

  1. Click Preparer in the top menu, click Master Information, then click Copy Master Form Data to Client(s). You can also right-click any client in the Client Manager, then hover over Master Information to see the same pop-out menu with the Copy Master Form Data command at the bottom.
  2. Select returns and which master form information to copy.

The master information is stored on TaxAct secure servers. If you are working in offline mode, you will need to switch to online mode to update that information. Appointment manager and cached preparer data are stored in prXXmaster.dat file (where XX stands for the tax year (for example, for 2020, the file would be named pr20master.dat)). This file should be located in the client data folder. If it has been moved to another location, this may be the reason why that information has been lost.
