IRS Reject Codes - IND-180, IND-181, IND-182, and/or IND-183
1

If your federal return is rejected with code IND-180, IND-181, IND-182, and/or IND-183, the taxpayer or spouse did not enter an Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) or the number he or she entered is invalid or incorrect. If you have misplaced the IRS letter containing your IP PIN, CLICK HERE to retrieve it.

To correct the Identity Protection PIN in the TaxACT program and resubmit the return:

  1. From within your TaxACT return (Online or Desktop), click on the Federal Q&A tab
  2. Click Miscellaneous Topics to expand the category and then click Identity Protection PIN
  3. Verify that the 6-digit PIN matches the number issued by the IRS*
  4. Click Continue to save any changes

Once you have corrected the IP PIN(s), click on the Filing tab and repeat the filing steps. Your return will not be resubmitted until you click the green Submit button.

*Note, each spouse on a married filing joint return will have his or her own IP PIN. If only one spouse received an IP PIN, that PIN would need to be entered in the field for that particular spouse.
