If your federal return is rejected with code IND-181, the primary taxpayer did not enter a valid Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN).
To fix or remove the Identity Protection PIN in the TaxACT program and refile:
Only one IP PIN can be submitted with a return. If you and your spouse file jointly and have separate IP PINs, only input the IP PIN that was issued to the taxpayer whose SSN (or other taxpayer identification number, such as an ITIN) is listed first on the tax return.
If you lose or misplace the IRS letter containing your PIN, you can still file your return. However, you will need to paper file and there may be a delay in processing the return while the IRS validates the identity of the taxpayer.
