Schedule A (Form 1040) - Entering Itemized or Standard Deductions in Program

To enter or review the information in the Itemized Deductions section of the Q&A:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
  2. Click Itemized or Standard Deductions in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu to expand, then click All itemized deductions topics.
  3. Click Review on any of the topics displayed, then continue with the interview process to enter all of the appropriate information.

To compare your itemized deductions with your standard deduction:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
  2. Click Itemized or Standard Deductions in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu to expand, then either click Use itemized deductions or Use standard deductions near the bottom - whichever is listed.
  3. On the screen titled Choose itemized deductions or the standard deduction, you will see the comparison of the total itemized deductions and the standard deduction for the return. The TaxAct program will use the greater of the two in order to provide you the greater benefit on the return. You do have the option on the screen to force the return to use the other option if necessary.
