1

With your TaxAct Professional Edition program, you can back up client returns and preparer information by following the steps below.

Backing Up Client Returns (Local Backup Option)

  1. From within your TaxAct Professional Edition program, click File in the upper menu bar, hover your mouse over Backup, then click Client Return(s).
  2. Click the circle next to Local, then click Next.
  3. Click the Checkbox next to the returns you want to back up, or click Select All to select all returns, then click Next.
  4. If you want to change the destination folder, click Browse, then navigate to the folder, click the folder, then click Select Folder.
  5. Click Finish.

Backing Up Preparer Information (Local Backup Option)

  1. From within your TaxAct Professional Edition program, click File in the upper menu bar, hover your mouse over Preparer’s Information, then click Local.
  2. In the window that appears, navigate to the folder where you want to save the preparer's information, click the folder, then click Select Folder.

Note. It's a good idea to back up preparer information any time you make changes to it and to keep a backup in the Client Data folder of the default install location of the computer. It's also a good idea to keep another backup somewhere other than the same computer, on external media or another computer. For that, we also offer another option below.

Backing Up Client Returns to TaxAct's Secure Servers (Online Backup Option)

The Online Backup feature is an Enterprise Edition feature. You may upgrade to the Enterprise edition of the program by contacting our professional support team at 319-731-2682. The Online Backup feature is not available when using the Enterprise online option ("cloud"), as your returns are saved directly to TaxAct secure servers.

  1. From within your TaxAct Professional Edition program, click File in the upper menu bar, hover your mouse over Backup, then click Client Return(s).
  2. Click the circle next to Online, then click Next.
  3. Type in your TaxAct username and password, then click Next.
  4. Click the Checkbox next to the returns you want to back up, or click Select All to select all returns.
  5. Click the Checkbox next to Backup Preparer Master Information to select it.
  6. Click Finish.
