If there was a name entered on the prior year's return to qualify the return for the Head of Household filing status, and this information was imported into the current year's return however is no longer needed, there are 2 ways to remove that information:

1) Change the Filing Status selection. Once the filing status is changed the Qualifying Person's information will not be in the interview.

  1. From within your TaxAct® return (Online or Desktop), click Basic Info. On smaller devices, click the menu icon in the upper left-hand corner, then select Basic Info.
  2. Click Filing Status, (Desktop users, located just below the Federal tab) and select any other filing status but Head of Household
  3. The Qualifying Person's information will not be in the Q&A interview, will not print on the Form 1040, nor with not transmit with the electronic filing submission.

 2) Add a dependent to the return. Once the Dependent is added, the Qualifying Person's information will not be in the interview.

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click the menu icon in the upper left-hand corner, then select Federal
  2. Click Basic Information to expand the category and then click Dependents and Other Qualifying Persons
  3. Click New Copy of Dependent and Qualifying Person (Desktop users click Add) to create a new copy of the form
  4. The program will proceed with the interview questions for you to enter or review the appropriate information
    The Qualifying Person's information will not be in the Q&A interview, will not print on the Form 1040, nor with not transmit with the electronic filing submission.
