You can deduct the cost and upkeep of uniforms that are not suitable for every-day use and that you must wear while performing donated services for a charitable organization. If you do volunteer work at a hospital, for example, you can deduct the cost of buying and cleaning your uniforms if:
- the hospital is a qualified organization,
- the uniforms are not suitable for everyday use, and
- you must wear them when volunteering.

You would enter the amount of cost and upkeep of such uniforms as an itemized deduction on Schedule A, Line 16 Gifts to Charity
. You can enter this information as cash contributions in TaxACT in the Itemized Deduction section of the Federal Q&A during the Contributions topic:
- From within your TaxACT return (Online or Desktop) click on the Federal Q&A tab
- Click Itemized or Standard Deductions to expand the section, then click Charitable Contributions
- Continue to the screen titled Itemized Deductions - Cash Contributions and enter your uniform expenses
