New Jersey - Wages Too High
1

Per the instructions the State of New Jersey provides to software developers, the program pulls state wages from all of the taxpayer's Forms W-2 Wage and Tax Statement for Line 15 of New Jersey Form NJ-1040. Per the New Jersey instructions for individuals, this figure may need to be adjusted for Forms W-2 received from employment outside New Jersey in order to reflect New Jersey tax law.

To make this adjustment in the TaxAct program:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click State to expand, then click New Jersey (or NJ). On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click State.
  2. Click Wage Adjustment in the New Jersey Quick Q&A Topics menu to access the screen where the adjustment can be made - enter this as a negative number.

Note. Instructions are provided on the screen and additional instructions are available from New Jersey if you click Form Instructions.
