Form 9465 - Installment Agreement Request (Before Filing Return)

You can set up monthly electronic funds withdrawals for your installment request when you enter your information for Form 9465 Installment Agreement Request.
Filing Form 9465 does not guarantee your request for a payment plan. The IRS will contact you to approve or deny your installment plan request.

To enter Form 9465, follow the steps below.
Online
Dashboard
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Taxes & Miscellaneous. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Other Tax Forms drop-down.
  3. Click Add beside IRS Installment Payment Plan Request (Form 9465)
  4. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Classic
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Miscellaneous Topics drop-down, then click IRS installment payment plan request.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Desktop
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
  2. Click the Miscellaneous Topics drop-down, then click IRS installment payment plan request.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
 
Note
  • When you enter your information for Form 9465, you’ll be prompted to enter your banking information. Proceed through the e-filing steps and select mail a check on the e-filing - federal balance due options screen.
  • When filing Form 9465, do not enter your banking information under the direct withdrawal selection, or the entire amount will be withdrawn all at once.
  • In the filing steps, you’ll be prompted to view and/or print the federal e-file instructions.
  • If the IRS doesn’t approve your installment request, mail the Form 1040-V voucher to submit payment.
