Additional Information
If this change also affects the mailing address for the taxpayer’s children who filed income tax returns, complete and file a separate Form 8822 for each child.
If you are a representative signing for the taxpayer, attach to Form 8822 a copy of your power of attorney.
If the taxpayer is changing both a home and business address, use a separate Form 8822 to show each change.
It is not necessary to file an amended return to change your address with IRS. If you are amending your tax return for reasons other than to change your address, you will need to mail Form 8822 with the amended return. However, if you have already sent your amended return, Form 8822 can be mailed by itself.
The mailing address for Form 8822 is state-specific according to your current address. Please refer to page 2 of Form 8822 to obtain the proper filing address.
