State Withholdings
1

When you enter your state withholdings from Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statement, they automatically transfer to Schedule A (Form 1040) Itemized Deductions as an itemized deduction and do not need to be entered again in the program.

To enter state withholdings from your W-2, go to our Form W-2 - Entering in Program FAQ.

To view your state withholdings:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal (on smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen, then click Federal).
  2. Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions dropdown, then click Taxes paid.
  3. On the screen titled Enter state and local income taxes you paid during 2022, you can see the state withholdings from your W-2 under State and local income taxes from Form W-2, 1099, etc.
  4. You can enter Other state and local income taxes paid if necessary, and edit any information if it's incorrect.
