Standard Deduction - Age 65 and/or Blind
1

There is a larger standard deduction if the taxpayer and/or spouse is age 65 or older, or blind. IRS Instructions for Form 1040 and 1040-SR U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, line 12, page 30, will indicate if there are additional amounts to include in the standard deduction.

The amount of the additional standard deduction is based on your filing status. For tax year 2021, age 65 for the additional standard deduction is defined as being born before January 2, 1957.
