Schedule B - When to Use/Print Only if Required

Per IRS Instructions for Schedule B Interest and Ordinary Dividends, on page 1, Schedule B (Form 1040) will print with your return only for the any of the following reasons:

Use Schedule B (Form 1040) if any of the following applies.

  • You had over $1,500 of taxable interest or ordinary dividends.
  • You received interest from a seller-financed mortgage and the buyer used the property as a personal residence.
  • You have accrued interest from a bond.
  • You are reporting original issue discount (OID) of less than the amount shown on Form 1099-OID.
  • You are reporting interest income of less than the amount shown on a Form 1099 due to amortizable bond premium.
  • You are claiming the exclusion of interest from series EE or I U.S. savings bonds issued after 1989.
  • You received interest or ordinary dividends as a nominee.
  • You had a financial interest in, or signature authority over, a financial account in a foreign country or you received a distribution from, or were a grantor of, or transferor to, a foreign trust.

To force Schedule B to print:

  1. From within your TaxAct Online return, click Tools down the left to expand, then click Custom Print.
  2. Check the items you want to print (the top section contains individual forms or schedules and the bottom section contains documents and worksheets). You may need to scroll down in the section to locate the items.
  3. Click Print, then click the PDF link. Click the printer icon or the save icon (available when you hover your mouse over the PDF form) to print or save the PDF copy.

Note. If you see a message indicating you have not paid your return fees, click the View/Pay your return fees link, which will direct you through the Paper Filing steps. Continue through the screens until you have processed the payment for your product fees and then repeat the steps to print.

  1. Click Forms in the top left corner of the toolbar to open the Forms view.
  2. Click to expand the FEDERAL Forms folder, then click to expand the Forms and Schedules folder.
  3. Double-click Schedule B - Interest and Ordinary Dividends, then click the pink Printer icon above the schedule. In the Print dialog box that appears, you can send the output to a printer or a PDF document and or to only print preview the schedule. Remember to uncheck Print Preview when you do actually want the item to print.
