Personal Property Taxes Paid

To claim personal property taxes paid in the TaxAct program, follow the steps below. 
Online
Dashboard
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Deductions & Credits. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Estimates & Other Taxes Paid drop-down.
  3. Click Add beside Deductible Taxes Paid
  4. Complete the rest of the interview process. 
Classic
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions drop-down, then click Taxes paid
  3. Follow the interview process and enter your Personal property taxes paid in 20YY
Desktop
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
  2. Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions drop-down, then click Taxes paid.
  3. Complete the rest of the interview process and enter your Personal property taxes paid in 20YY in the entry box. 
The TaxAct program will transfer the information to Schedule A (Form 1040). If you don't know if your vehicle registration fees are based on value, contact your taxing authority for verification.

Note. For tax purposes, taxes you pay on your home are called "real estate taxes" (although many people refer to them as property taxes) and need to be claimed separately.  To claim real estate taxes, go to our Real Estate Taxes - Entering Deductible FAQ.
