TaxAct® allows the entry of 6 children on Form(s) 8839. If you need to enter more than 6 adopted children, you will need to override some fields in TaxAct and paper file your return. You may only override fields in the TaxAct Desktop (download) program.

For Part II of your manually completed Form 8839 (for child 7, 8, etc.), fill in lines 2 through 6, 10, and 11 for each child. You will need to override line 12 to equal the amount TaxAct calculated, plus the amount from line 11 of all manually completed Forms 8839.

For Part III of your manually completed Form 8839 (for child 7, 8, etc.), fill in lines 17 through 20, 22, 26, and 27 for each child. You will need to override lines 21 and 28 to equal the amount TaxAct calculated, plus the amount from lines 20 and 27 of all manually completed Forms 8839.
