The checkbox at the top of Form 2210 Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Individuals, Estates, and Trusts must be selected if you would like the IRS to compute any applicable penalty and send you a bill.

To select this option in your TaxAct® return:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
  2. Click Underpayment Penalty in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu, then click Yes.
  3. On the first two screens titled Underpayment Penalty - Prior Year Tax and Underpayment Penalty - Reasons for Filing, clear any entries or checkboxes, then click Continue.
  4. Continue to the screen titled Underpayment Penalty - IRS, check Check here if you would like the IRS to compute any applicable penalty and send you a bill, then click Continue.

Note. If any box is checked on the previous two screens, you will not see the screen titled Underpayment Penalty - IRS.

Note. The IRS will only send a bill if they determine it is applicable to the situation.
