Form 2106 - Number of Vehicles for Taxpayer and Spouse

Per IRS Instructions for Form 2106, page 1:

Purpose of Form

Use Form 2106 if you were an Armed Forces reservist, qualified performing artist, fee-basis state or local government official, or employee with impairment-related work expenses. Due to the suspension of miscellaneous itemized deductions subject to the 2% floor under section 67(a), employees who do not fit into one of the listed categories may not use Form 2106.

Section A—General Information

If you used two vehicles for business during the year, use a separate column in Sections A, C, and D for each vehicle. If you used more than two vehicles, complete and attach a second Form 2106, page 2.

To report more than two vehicles on Form 2106 (you can enter up to four vehicles per form; each spouse can file a separate Form 2106).

  1. From within your Form 2106, continue with the interview process until you reach the screen titled Employee Expenses - Unreimbursed Expenses.
  2. Click Yes, and continue with the interview process until you reach the screen titled Employee Expenses - Vehicle Expense Review.
  3. Click + Add Form 2106 Page 2 Vehicle Expenses to create a Page 2 for another vehicle or click Edit to edit a Page 2 already created (desktop program: click Review instead of Edit).
  4. Continue with the interview process to enter your information.


  • When you print/file Form 2106, if you added more than two vehicles, there will be more than one Page 2 of the form.
  • The TaxAct program allows you to complete two Forms 2106 for one person, but there will be red alerts in the review section because you are only allowed to e-file one Form 2106 per person.
