TaxAct® will use the higher of your itemized deductions or the standard deduction for your filing status to maximize your tax benefit.
To force the selection of a method on your TaxAct return:
From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
Click Itemized or Standard Deductions in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu to expand, then click Use itemized deductions or Use standard deductions. Note. The deduction option that appears will not be what the system had already chosen for your return based on your previous entries.
Check the deduction option you want to use, then click Continue.
