Form 8862 Information To Claim Certain Credits After Disallowance is used to claim the Earned Income Credit (EIC) if this credit was previously reduced or disallowed by the IRS, and you now wish to claim the credit on this year's return.

To enter information regarding Form 8862 in the TaxAct program:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal (on smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen, then click Federal).
  2. Click the Other Credits dropdown, then click Information to claim certain credits after disallowance.
  3. On the screen titled Claim Certain Credits After Disallowance, click the checkbox next to Earned Income Credit.
  4. On the screen titled EIC After Disallowance - Reason, click Yes.

If you need to delete Form 8862 from your return:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Tools (on smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen, then click Tools).
  2. Click the Forms Assistant dropdown, then click Federal Forms and Schedules.
  3. Click on Form 8862 titled Information to Claim Certain Credits After Disallowance, click on the delete form and confirm.
  4. Go back in and confirm the from has been deleted. If not, repeat steps until the form is deleted.
