Form 4361 - Exempt Clergy Income or Wages

To indicate you are a clergy member, minister, member of a religious order, or Christian Science practitioner, and filed Form 4361 Application for Exemption From Self-Employment Tax for Use by Ministers, Members of Religious Orders and Christian Science Practitioners:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
  2. Click Taxes in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu to expand, then click Self-employment tax adjustments.
  3. Continue with the interview process to enter all of the appropriate information.
  4. On the screen titled Self-Employment Tax - Form 4361, check Taxpayer/Spouse has an IRS approved Form 4361, then click Continue.

If you have some income that is exempt from self-employment tax due to Form 4361 and some which is not exempt, use the following steps to enter the income subject to self-employment tax:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
  2. Click Taxes in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu to expand, then click Self-employment tax adjustments.
  3. Continue with the interview process to enter all of the appropriate information.
  4. On the screen titled Self-Employment Tax - Adjustments, enter the Other adjustments (+ or -) amount subject to self-employment, then click Continue.
