Dependents - Entering and Reviewing

When you enter the dependent information, it flows to Form 1040. The dependent’s data (social security number, year of birth, relationship, number of months lived with you, etc.) is also used to calculate credits such as the Child Tax Credit (CTC) or Other Dependent Credit (ODC).

To review your calculated Child Tax Credit (CTC) or Other Dependent Credit (ODC), follow the steps below. 

Online
Dashboards
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Deductions and Credits.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection. 
  2. The topic card Child & Other Dependent Tax Credits shows the amount of CTC or ODC calculated. 
  3. Click Edit to review detailed information or make changes. 
  4. At the end of the interview, a breakdown of the credit is displayed. 
Classic Navigation
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection. 
  2. Click the Miscellaneous Topics drop-down, then click Child Tax Credit.
  3. Follow the interview process and update selections, as needed. 
  4. At the end of the interview, a breakdown of the credit is displayed. 
Desktop
  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
  2. Click Child Tax Credit (on the right, below Miscellaneous Topics)
  3. Follow the interview process and update selections, as needed.
  4. At the end of the interview, a breakdown of the credit is displayed.
