Note that the IRS Where's My Refund system updates every 24 hours (usually overnight), so there is no need to check the site more than once a day.

When to Check Your Refund Status

If you e-file, you can generally get initial refund information 24 hours after the IRS acknowledges receipt of your return. If you file a paper return, refund information will generally be available four weeks after mailing your return.

Refund checks are normally sent out weekly on Fridays (Direct Deposits from the IRS are released on Wednesdays and checks are mailed on Fridays, but it may take up to 5 additional days for your bank to process and put into your account). If you check the status of your refund and are not given the date it will be issued, please wait until the next week before checking back.
