Install/Update a State - TaxAct Online

Because the TaxAct® Online program resides on our servers, there is no need to run program updates or install software to your computer. Any updates to the program are done on our servers and no action is required by the user.

To add a state to your return:

  1. Start a federal tax return and step through the Federal Q&A interview questions or click the State tab.
  2. Click Add State to attach a state to your return or No State to proceed to the review section.




  3. If you have already added a state to your return, click Continue to proceed through the Q&A interview questions for each state in alphabetical order, or click the name of the state under the Basic Info tab to jump to a specific state's interview questions. If you need to add another state to your return, click Add State.
