What is a Practice ID and Where to Find (or Enter) Yours
1

Starting in tax year 2015, TaxAct assigns each practice a unique alphanumeric identification code called a "Practice ID" when the software is purchased. If you have multiple preparers in your practice, each preparer will have the same Practice ID.

The Practice ID – as well as your EFIN and PTIN (or SSN) – must be entered in Master Info in order to e-file. You may also be asked to sign in to your TaxAct Account the first time you e-file so that your software is synched with your TaxAct Account.

Note: If you are not the practice owner, you must ask the owner for the Practice ID.

Where to find your Practice ID

You can locate your Practice ID in two locations:

  1. Sign in to your TaxAct Account and look in the upper right corner of your Practice Manager.

Reminder: If you are not the practice owner, your practice owner must send you an email invitation to join the practice so that your TaxAct Account has the same Practice ID.

  2. Open your TaxAct software. In the main navigation menu, click Preparer. Select Master Information, then Practice. Look for your Practice ID under "Practice Name" at the top of the popup window. If you are not the practice owner, you must ask the owner for the Practice ID and enter it here.
