How to create PDFs of last year's returns:

Import data from PDFs of last year's individual (1040) returns prepared by:

What data is imported?

Form 1040

  • Taxpayer (and Spouse, if applicable) First & Last Name, SSN, and Occupation
  • Address - Street, Apt., City, Postal Code, Foreign Country & Province

ATX

  • In Return Manager, check the box next to the client return(s) you want to create as a PDF.
  • Click "Returns" in the main menu, then select "Batch Print Marked Returns".
  • In the next window, click Printer Setup and select "Adobe PDF" as your printer. Click OK to close the window, then click Print.
  • In the next window where you can edit the file location and name, verify that "PDF files (*PDF)" is selected as the "Save as type". Click Save. Repeat this step for each return.

CrossLink for 2017 returns

  • Click the Setup menu, then Printer Setup. In Printer Settings, check Prompt for Tax Return PDF, then OK.
  • Open the return you want to create as a PDF. Click Print in the toolbar.
  • At the bottom of the Print window by the text "Create PDF copy of the Tax Return" Click PDF.
  • The PDF will open in a new window, Save the file with the name and location of your choice.
  • Repeat steps 2 and 4 for remaining clients.

CrossLink for 2016 returns

  • Click the Setup menu, then Printer Setup. In Printer Settings, check Prompt for Tax Return PDF, then OK.
  • Open the return you want to create as a PDF. Click Print in the toolbar.
  • At the bottom of the Print window, click Create PDF copy of the Tax Return. Click Print.
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 for remaining clients.
  • Press F2 to go to main screen. Under Printing Queue, select "Tax Returns" to view all clients ready for printing.

CrossLink for 2015 returns

  • Click the Setup menu, then Printer Setup. In Printer Settings, check Prompt for Tax Return PDF, then OK.
  • Open the return you want to create as a PDF. Click Print in the toolbar.
  • At the bottom of the Print window, click Create PDF copy of the Tax Return. Click Print.
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 for remaining clients.

Drake

  • From the main screen, select Print in the toolbar.
  • In the Return Selector window, check the box next to the client return(s) you want to create as a PDF. Click Print.
  • Select the client forms, worksheets, etc. for which you want to create PDFs. Click Next.
  • Select "Adobe PDF" as your printer. Click Print. Edit the file location and name if desired, then click Save.
  • Repeat steps 3 and 4 for remaining clients.

Intuit Tax Online

  • Open the client return you want to create as a PDF and click the File Return tab.
  • Click View/Print Return PDF on the left navigation panel under "Print".
  • Right click on the blue "View Return PDF" button and select "Save link as...". Edit the file location and name if desired, then click Save.
  • Repeat the above steps for remaining clients.

Intuit Lacerte

  • On the Clients tab, select the client return(s) you want to create as a PDF. Click Print in the main menu.
  • Select Tax Return from the drop down menu.
  • In the Print Tax Return window, verify "Complete return" is selected.
  • Select File (PDF) in in "Return Options" section, then click OK.
  • Edit the file location and name if desired, then click Save.

Intuit ProSeries Professional

  • From Homebase, select the return(s) you want to create as a PDF. (Use SHIFT to select blocks of returns and CTRL to select multiple returns.)
  • Click the File menu, then Create PDF File.
  • Verify that File (PDF) is checked in the Print area, and check the Filing Copy Forms box
  • Click Print.

Intuit ProSeries Basic

  • From Homebase, select the client return to create as a PDF. Click the File menu, then Print.
  • In the bottom right corner of the Filing Copy tab, click Create PDF.
  • Repeat the above steps for remaining clients.

 TaxSlayer Pro

  • In the main menu, click Print Returns, then select "Option 1: Print: Individual returns."
  • Check the box next to each return you want to create as a PDF.
  • Select number of copies in the print option box. Click OK.
  • Choose "Adobe PDF" as your printer, then click OK. (Your files will be saved in the "Printer Port".)
  • Enter a file name and click Save.

UltraTax CS

  • From the file menu, click Print Returns,
  • Check only the third checkbox next to the drop down box reading: Preparer copy with field masking or Preparer copy.
  • Select Preparer copy from the drop down box next to the checkbox.
  • Below check only: PDF to file and on the bottom click the Assemble button.
  • Click Open Target Folder. This will take you to where your PDF file was saved.

TaxWise

  • From the File menu, click Print, then select "Print Return(s)".
  • Check the box next to each 1040 return you want to create as a PDF. Click OK.
  • In the Print pop-up window, make sure "File Copy" is selected, then click the Print to PDF button on the right.
  • Modify the file prefix and location where you’d like to save to if desired. Click OK.

TaxWise for 2015 returns

  • From the File menu, select Classic Print: Classic Print Returns.
  • Choose Username in the drop down box.
  • Check the box next to each return you want to create as a PDF.
  • Select number of copies in the print option box. Click Print to PDF.
  • Select a prefix and Save.

H&R Block Desktop

  • From the File menu, select Print then Click Print
  • Enter a file name and click Save.
  • The Quick Convert® process is complete, review and edit the imported information. To complete the import, click "Continue". To cancel the import of a return, click "Cancel".
