PayPower (Debit Card) Rejections
1
If your Debit Card Application has been rejected because PayPower could not validate your identity, it may have been rejected for a common mistake in the basic information entered for your tax return. You can choose to correct your Basic Information, and then repeat the filing step to re-apply for the debit card, or you can choose a different method to receive your refund.

The following are the main reasons that PayPower may not be able to validate your identity. We have also included steps on how to verify the items and steps needed to correct them:

  1. The mailing address on your Form 1040 income tax return must be a physical address and not a PO Box.

    To verify or update this:
    • Click on the Basic Info tab.
    • Click on Personal Info located directly below the Basic Info tab.
    • Click on Continue until you arrive at screen titled Address and Telephone Number.
    • Review the address that is entered.
    • If a change is made you will need to click Continue for the change to save.

  2. The Taxpayer SSN may have been mis-typed OR the SSN is invalid or not yet issued.

    To verify or update this:
    • Click on the Basic Info tab.
    • Click on Personal Info which is located directly below the Basic Info tab.
    • You will arrive at the screen titled Name, Social Security Number and Date of Birth.
    • You will need to verify that the SSN for the primary taxpayer is correct.
    • If a change is made you will need to click Continue for the change to save.

  3. The full name and SSN do not match. Your last name could be spelled wrong, based on Social Security Administration information or the SSN may be mis-typed.

    To verify or update this:
    • Click on the Basic Info tab.
    • Click on Personal Info which is located directly below the Basic Info tab.
    • You will arrive at the screen titled Name, Social Security Number and Date of Birth.
    • You will need to verify the primary taxpayers name and SSN are correct. You will then click on Continue to verify that the spouse's information is correct.
    • If any changes are made you will need to click Continue for the change(s) to save.
If you do not see a common reason listed above for your rejection or you have verified that all the data you have entered is correct, please choose another method to receive your refund.

To choose a different method to receive your refund, you will need to click on the Filing tab and choose to E-File My Return. You will then proceed through the e-filing steps and choose to receive either a Direct Deposit or Paper Check. Once your selection is made, you will need to continue through the efiling steps until you receive confirmation that you have submitted the return successfully.
