Green Fields are Default-Calculated and May Be Changed
1

In the TaxAct® programs, the fields calculated by the program may appear as either green or blue in the desktop program and are either able to be changed or not able to be changed in the Q&A Interview section of the program.

The blue amounts (or those amounts not able to be modified in the Q&A Interview), are calculated to be correct by the program. Desktop users of the program may force the amounts to be changed, however that is considered overriding the amounts and, unless you are using the Preparer program, you will not be able to e-file your return.

The green amounts (or those amounts able to be changed in the Q&A Interview), are default-calculated fields and can be changed if you determine the amount in that field is incorrect. We structure the program this way so that different situations can be accommodated. Changing a green amount in the desktop program (or any amount able to be changed in the Q&A Interview), is not considered overriding.

To clear an amount so it again reflects the amount default calculated by the program, you would need to highlight the amount, click Delete, then click Enter on your keyboard. This procedure will also clear any overridden amount in the Desktop version of the program and allow the amount calculated by the program to reappear.
