If you have chosen to use the
Forms method of data entry to complete your tax return, please use caution when entering data directly on a form. Any field that displays a
blue number is pulling information from a different part of the program or interview, or is a program-calculated field. Only the
green numbers are modifiable fields. It is best to always use the supporting documents/worksheets, when applicable, to ensure the number being pulled to a particular field is correct.
In general, if a form is not calculating correctly, it is likely you have overridden a blue field you should not have. The easiest way to locate this is to review the supporting document(s) or worksheet(s) associated with that field. A supporting document or worksheet for blue entry fields is indicated by a yellow manila folder icon. Click on the yellow folder to open the supporting document or worksheet for that field. You may have to go through several supporting documents or worksheets to accomplish this. Any overridden entries will be shown in
red.
If you did override an entry, clear the overridden field by clicking on the number in the field and deleting the value. To delete the value, press the
Delete key followed by the
Tab key on your keyboard. Overridden fields in the program void the
Accuracy Guarantee because they may cause the program to not calculate as expected. A return with an overridden field will not be allowed to be e-filed (with the exception of paid preparers).
If you are unable to navigate through the forms, we suggest you select the Q&A button and use the interview method. This entry method will ask questions about your tax situation and place the data in the appropriate place on the return for you.
