Standard Mileage Vehicle Expense

To enter the amounts in the TaxAct Program which will transfer to Line 9 of Schedule C or Line 2 of Schedule C-EZ, for Vehicle Expenses:
     
  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop) click on the Federal tab. On smaller devices, click the menu icon in the upper left-hand corner, then select Federal
  2. Click Business Income to expand the category and then click Business income or loss from a sole proprietorship
  3. Click Add to create a new copy of Schedule C or click Schedule C to access the form that has already been created (For returns eligible for filing Schedule C-EZ (under $5,000 in expenses) the program will have both Schedule C and Schedule C-EZ listed. Select Schedule C to continue) 
  4. Continue through the screens until you reach Business Income - Expenses, click Yes and then click Continue
  5. On the next screen titled Business Income - Vehicle Expenses, click Yes
  6. If you have not entered any vehicle information, click Continue or if you have entered vehicle information click add to add another vehicle or click review to review information for a vehicle already entered.
  7. On the screen titled Depreciation and Vehicle Expenses, the Asset Type must be either a Car or Light Truck/SUV to be able to enter the vehicle miles driven on the following screen to calculate the standard mileage rate
  8. Continue the Q&A process to enter information and when you reach the screen Vehicles - Actual or Standard, you can select the method you prefer to use
