Topic:  Mailing addresses for filing

FEDERAL Paper Filing:
You are required to mail in all forms and schedules as well as any W-2, W-2G, 1099s that you have received. The IRS recommends that you put the W-2, W-2G, and 1099s on top of the 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ and then attach all other forms and schedules underneath in order by number, with the exception of the EIC, which goes last.

The address to mail your Federal Forms depends on where you live. A complete table is located on the last page of the 1040 Instructions. You may also select the IRS link below, then select your state:

STATE Paper Filing:
The address to which you should mail your state return should be found within the instructions when printing your state return. You may need to look at the bottom of the last page of your state return to locate the mailing address.

TaxACT Desktop customers may also locate their state paper filing instructions using the following instructions:

  1. Click on "Reports"
  2. Then on "Paper Filing Instructions"
  3. Then on "State"
  4. Then on the state of your choice.

Filing Extensions:
Form 4868 - - Application for Automatic Extensions. This form must be mailed to the appropriate address based upon where you live and if you are sending a payment or not. You can find specific addresses on Page 4 of the IRS 4868 Instruction Booklet.

Note: When going through the electronic filing process in TaxACT, the electronic filing instructions will explain exactly what you need to do to complete the filing of your return. For more information on printing the electronic filing instructions, click here.
