If you receive a JavaScript "Error on Page", "Script Error" or "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug?", please review this help topic and follow the 5 easy steps to correct the problem.

This error message can happen because of one or more of the following reasons:

  • You may be running a pop-up blocker that closes pop-up windows so fast that that the web page fails.
  • You may have some adware or spyware installed on your computer that opens the script error pop-ups.
  • You may not have the latest Windows updates or the latest version of Java installed.

Please follow these steps to correct the error:

Step 1 - Clear your Browser Cache

Step 3 - Perform Windows Update

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on Tools->Windows Updates
  3. Follow the instructions to download critical updates and windows updates

Step 4 - Disable script and runtime errors (See Figure Below)

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click on Tools, then on Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Look for the "Disable script debugging" line and put a check mark in the box.
  5. Now look for the "Display a notification about every script error" line and remove the check mark in the box.

Step 5 - Re-Register urlmon.dll

If you're experiencing errors when using TaxAct Online such as "Error on page" or Java script error" or if you look in the bottom left corner of Internet Explorer and you see a small error that says "Error on page" the first thing that Microsoft recommends is that you re-register a file called "urlmon.dll" with the browser. You can do this as follows:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
  3. When prompted with the box below, click OK.

Next, you'll want to make certain that you have the most recent version of the Java Virtual Machine. Please click the following link then click the link for "Verify Java Version". The download will start automatically. Simply follow the on screen instructions. When it's done you will need to reboot your computer. Then go back to www.taxactonline.com and login and you should be able to continue with your return.

Java Also supports Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, and all Internet Explorer or Mozilla based browsers.

If the problem still persists, you'll want to disable your third-party browser extensions by doing the following:

  1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
  5. Restart Internet Explorer.

Again, if that doesn't work, try the following:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools, and click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Browsing, click to select the Disable Script Debugging check box.
  5. Click OK to close all windows, and then restart the computer.

Step 6 - Try Another Browser

If you continue to experience issues, you may wish to try another browser.
