Pressing the submit button to e-file your return is just like dropping your return in the mail--once it's transmitted, there's nothing we can do to stop it. You will need to wait to hear back from the IRS. Generally you receive an acknowledgement from the IRS either accepting or rejecting your return within 48 hours of transmission.
If the IRS rejects the return, you will have an opportunity to go back through your return and make the necessary changes. Once the changes have been made, you can retransmit the return for no additional charge.
If the IRS accepts your return, you will need to file an Amended Return - Form 1040X to make any changes. For additional instruction on the 1040X please visit IRS 1040X form
