Topic:  Form 8863 - IRS Processing Begins February 14

The IRS has delayed processing of tax returns claiming education credits until February 14. This delay only affects taxpayers claiming the American Opportunity Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit on Form 8863.

You can still prepare, print, and e-file your return using TaxACT at any time. If your return includes Form 8863, it will be submitted to the IRS when processing begins on Thursday, February 14.

Please note that it may take the IRS up to 48 hours after the start of processing to acknowledge all of these returns.

If you submitted a return claiming either of the education credits before January 27 and your return has already been accepted by the IRS, you do not need to resubmit your return. However, the IRS will not process your return or issue your tax refund before February 14. Your Where's My Refund status will not change to "Refund Approved" until that time.

For more information, please see the IRS Press Release.
