Form 2210 - Underpayment Penalty - Allow IRS to Compute Penalty
1

The checkbox at the top of Form 2210 Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Individuals, Estates, and Trusts must be selected if you would like the IRS to compute any applicable penalty and send you a bill.

To check this checkbox in the TaxAct program:

  1. From within your TaxAct return (Online or Desktop), click Federal. On smaller devices, click in the upper left-hand corner, then click Federal.
  2. Click Underpayment Penalty in the Federal Quick Q&A Topics menu, then click Yes.
  3. On the screen titled Underpayment Penalty - Prior Year Tax, don't enter any information.  On the screen titled Underpayment Penalty - Reasons for Filing, uncheck any checkboxes.
  4. On the screen titled Underpayment Penalty - IRS, click the checkbox next to Check here if you would like the IRS to compute any applicable penalty and send you a bill.

If any box is checked on the previous two screens, you will not see the screen titled Underpayment Penalty - IRS. The IRS will only send a bill if they determine it is applicable to the situation.
