Free E-file Test Transmissions
There is no cost for submitting sample returns using TaxACT 2009 Preparer's 1040 Preview Edition. This is a great way to see for yourself how easy and convenient electronic filing can be.

The process is the same as it will be during tax season, EXCEPT the sample return will NOT be filed with the IRS. You will be able to go through the same steps of creating and submitting a return and you will be able to check the status of the return in your personal online e-file status manager.
Steps to submit a sample return:
- You must have an EFIN number to electronically file. While you may send a test transmission now without one, you won't be able to actually file actual returns with the IRS in January. If you don't have an EFIN, now is the best time to get one. There is at least a 45 day wait period before you'll receive one. Don't wait until January to get one, or the tax season will be over. To request an EFIN, go to Form 8633 - Request to Participate in IRS E-file (PDF).
- Select Electronic Filing in TaxACT 2009 Preparer's 1040 Edition. You can get to this by selecting the Electronic Filing button on the main toolbar at the top of the screen, or select Step 6--Filing from the Home Page.
